The Edge of Light

Nestled in the mountains to the north of Pingtung lies a place known as “Sandimen,” a remote and almost otherworldly location. Along the mountainous edge connecting to the sky, ancient Paiwan and Rukai tribes call this place home. In the Paiwan language, “Sandimen (Timur)” translates to “people of the sun.”

The art piece “The Edge of Light” draws inspiration from this backdrop, utilizing minimalist lines to sculpt the mountain’s dignified posture. An irregular elliptical platform pathway encircles the mountain, reflecting the surrounding environment and the sky on its mirrored surface. It creates an illusion of viewers seamlessly merging with the landscape as they traverse the space. The light emanating from beneath the artwork, much like the sun’s rays, symbolizes the genesis of life, infusing us with energy and courage while safeguarding the vitality of all life in this land.
